Using a magical doll for healing
This morning I woke up convinced that NOW was the time to do the thing that I have been spending months mulling over:
Creating a Poppet!
And Dear Goddess, could I not be more excited! Let me first share with you some basic info so that you know what a Poppet is, why I am excited about it and how I plan to use one for my personal healing, both emotional, spiritual and physical.
A poppet (for this purpose) is a doll used in magical practices, often for healing and manifestation workings. Poppets can be created for a specific intention and person. They are meant to represent the person or goal that you want to influence in a gentle, positive way.
Cultures around the world use different terms like:
Vodou Doll (Haitian)
Corn Husk Doll (First Nations and African Cultures)
Hoko Doll (Japaneese)
Montanka Doll (Polish/ Ukrainian)
There are many ways in which to create the physical structure of the doll but it helps to first determine your intention. Do you want to send healing energy to someone, bring more love and joy into your life, help your friend move past obstacles, or something else? Once you have a clear and kind intention, gather some simple materials to create the poppet. I plan to use fabric, thread, stuffing, and other items that represent my intention. I am sure I will also be including herbs, gemstones, and personal symbols to increase the potency. (Some people suggest to include hair or nail clippings to create a bio connection to the working.)
When the poppet is complete, I will use the form to help in healing wounds, heart aches, troubles and encourage new ways of thinking or being by speaking and caring for the poppet in the ways I may have never received as young person.
I will be creating a few poppets over the next few week and will share the design and the process as part of the Ancestral Keys project. But for now, I will be making one for myself as a method of self healing and reclaiming the mystical that has so enriched my life.
